Andrea T. Ariman, M.A.

Andrea T. Ariman, M.A. is a hobby poet & writer who teaches & translates for money & fun. She also enjoys playing the saz, salsa & ballroom dancing, swimming, and riding her bicycle. Additionally, she is an advocate for “Stadtradeln” as well as Slow Jogging.
Andrea’s creative work in English (her first foreign language) has been published in the collections “Long River Review” (University of Connecticut), “In Our Write Minds” (University of Heidelberg), and in the anthology “To Life” by Mattes Verlag (https://mattes.de/buecher/heidelbergensia/978-3-86809-187-8.html). Andrea’s poem “Ice Skating Love” won First Prize in the 2002 Windham Area Poetry Contest in Connecticut, USA.
Her translations into German, i.e., an essay by Jason Murison as well as poems by Jan Heller Levi, have been published in “literary new york” (das gefrorene meer e.V., http://www.germe.de/2008/print4.html).
In 2016 Andrea made her Stuttgart debut as a slam poet and in 2020 performed as part of the Vagina Monologues performances in Stuttgart. In 2024, Andrea returned to her Alma Mater to lead a panel discussion on publishing literary texts as part of the 30th anniversary of Creative Writing at Heidelberg University.
A native of Germany of Turkish, Austrian, and way back also Italian descent, Andrea has lived in the USA, México, & Türkiye, studying and teaching languages, making international friends & learning to see the world from different perspectives. She continues widening her cultural horizon through her teaching of German to recently arrived immigrant children and teenagers from all over the world.
