Hello WiS writers,
After several months work, writersinstuttgart.com is almost ready to go live. It is a work in progress. It will always be a work in progress. That is the definition of a website. The Website was built using WordPress website development tools. After more than 30 years doing UI design, I found this was not a task for the faint hearted. I learned a lot.
To understand the best way for you take advantage of our website is to first review the websites mission. Then revue each menu selection.
Mission: writersinstuttgart.com serves two purposes:
- To provide a place for the general public to learn about Writers in Stuttgart, find out how to attend our readings and provide WiS writers feedback through comments.
- To provide WiS members a central place to communicate with the group and find information on everything happening within WiS.
With the above mission statement in mind, the menus are split into two groups. The Welcome menu and a Members Only menu. Please review each of the menu groups and give me your feedback
The Welcome menu:
This menu is shows to the general public. It will always be visible. I need to know if you find errors, disagree with any of the content or have a suggestion for improving the content.
The Members Only menu:
The Members only menu is password protected. Only WiS members can view the members only area. Currently it has a simple global password. This password is provided in the email I sent you. I will send you a new email when the global password will change to individual passwords created by you. This will provide much better protection against internet bots that attempt to hijack websites.
Note: this menu only shows after clicking “Member Login” and providing the password. Do not give the password out to anyone that is not a member of Writers in Stuttgart. As soon as the current members have implemented their own passwords, I will change the global password.
Please review the Members Only menu selections. Their intent should be obvious. The “Members Only” menu is for your benefit. Let me know if you see something that needs changing. This is your/our website. It is intended to be the central means of communication between WiS members. It is for your benefit.
Please review the Membership Roster. Make sure your name and email address are correct. Also look at the telephone number column. The only number that is currently provided is mine. Many people feel that providing their telephone number is intrusive. I do not provide my telephone number on any public sites. The “Members Only” area is not a public site. It is a password protected only available to the WiS membership. Many times I have been frustrated by not being able to call someone when I needed last minute information or to tell someone I was going to be late. Please consider providing your phone number so that your fellow writers can call you when needed. You can do this through the Member Information Update form. Note: The Member Information Update form is not pre-formatted to a phone number. you can provide text information to show below the number such as “After 18:00” or “Between 10:00-13:00”
Website Information – is there for reference and will contain instructions on how to use the site.
Please use the Leave a Reply. I need your feedback. Be honest. Be direct. I do not mind negative feedback. It is the only way to improve something. I am also not immune to positive feedback 🙂
Thank you,
Jim
